Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born the 8th of July, 1989 in Paris. At the age five she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma realized she would like to be an actress and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied singing dancing and acting. As early as age ten, she took part as the lead in a number of Stagecoach Productions and School Plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was identified by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had eight consecutive auditions. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It was also the most successful film of 2001. Opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. Critics have praised both the film and the performance of the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a popular British paper, praised her for her outstanding performance. Emma's performance was nominated and later won awards for the movie.
